The public programs of architecture to put visionary thinkers in the spotlight - Ubnow: News and views for UB faculties and employees

In the School of Architecture and Planning, a respected series of designers, architects, authors and artists will be organized as part of its public program series.

This series of lectures and discussions will be freely and publicly accessible to the public, from the role of art in a time of the climate crisis to exploration of breed and place to the role of public education in the design of public space.

All events take place at 6 p.m., personally on the South Campus and via Zoom. RSVP for the lectures on the following links.

The series begins on September 10 with “Round Timber in Construction”, a lecture by Lukas Kirschnick, a researcher at the Bauhaus University Weimer. Kirschnick will use illustrative project examples to present the latest findings on the diverse uses of round wood in construction and design.

The rest of the schedule:

September 17: Ludovico Centis presents “Reyner Banham: a number of actual tracks”. Centis, Peter Reyner Banham 2013-14 from UB, will discuss his new book, which brings a contemporary critical lens into Banham's work.

September 24: Sydney Gross Memorial Lecture. Fine artist Mary MattinGly will talk about her large -scale public art projects, the collectivity, ecological mutual dependency and the role of artists examine in the presentation of alternative futures.

October 6: “Poston Live – through the Race & Place lens.” film Director, writer and producer Marlene Shigekawa will examine the historical forces that have shaped the creation of the poston's warehouse in which she was born and revealed cultural, political and economic influences. A demonstration of your short film “The Blue Jay” will follow.

October 8: “Build (and rebuild) the matrix.” The journalist and author McKenzie Funk will discuss Hank Asher's surveillance heir, the data broker presented in his 2023 book “The Hank Show”, whose work has compiled data on any of us to use by law enforcement authorities, corporate America and the government.

October 22nd In the past 30 years, Corner landscape architecture and urbanism shaped by large public projects such as Manhattan's High Line, Chicagos Navy Pier and Seattle's Waterfront.

November 19: “Curatorial design: A place between.” A panel discussion with architects and educators Dubravka Sekulić and faculty members Joyce Hwang, Erkin Özay and Emmanuel Frimpong Boamah will concentrate on public education and their role in the evaluation and design of public space in our current political landscape.
