Note presents his first architecture project in Ottsjö
Multidisciplinary design studio Note completes his first architecture project, a villa that is located over the steep mountain coating of Ottsjö in Sweden. This is south of the Åre ski area that House is carefully installed in his surroundings, while he still keeps his own clear and pronounced expression. Customers, a young couple with a strong appreciation for nature, approached barn Aesthetics, characterized by a beaten roof, a horizontal alignment and minimalist disguise. However, the local restrictions, including the natural topography, required adjustments to the initial concept. Based on the landscape's height curves, the design developed beyond conventional barn typologies in order to react directly to its surroundings. The location of the project in Northern Sweden, where daylight is limited, required a careful orientation to maximize the natural light all day long.
The Ottsjö project is particularly important because it marks the first step of the studio into the full-fledged architectural design. “It was a natural but difficult progress to refine their approach to the design of the interior for years, and was a natural but difficult progress.” Evales the Note creative team with a design boom.

The architectural layout of the note follows the mountainous site
“We have been looking for this opportunity for years and this project is a significant shift. One in which we determine the architectural framework instead of adapting to existing conditions, ' Says Johannes Karlström, co -founder of Note Design studioand continues: “It enabled us to implement our knowledge of materiality, spatial river and user experience into a broader context. For us, this project has shown a newly discovered freedom in which we set the parameters instead of working in them. ' He explains design boom.
The architectural design consists of three identical pitched roof volumes that are connected and yet capture the breathtaking view of the mountain to the west. This arrangement enables the house to follow the wavy terrain naturally and to create a liquid and intuitive floor plan. Each volume serves a certain function that guarantees a balance between shared and private rooms. The internal connection is facilitated by a central pedestrian bridge, which enables both the physical and vocal access throughout the house. The result is a very social life that offers maximum functions despite its minimal footprint.

Materials from the region that form the local retreat
The house consists of Swedish pine wood from a forest that is 140 kilometers away to ensure a locally available and sustainable material. The cold climate in the region leads to slow tree growth and creates a dense and durable wood that is suitable for construction. If left untreated, the pine is used in the entire facade, so that it can naturally withstand the elements according to traditional building methods. The architectural layout consists of three connected volumes, each of which compensates for a separate function for common and private spaces. A central pedestrian bridge facilitates movement and communication throughout the household and improves connectivity and at the same time keeps a compact footprint.
For the Note Design Studio, the selection of materials was an essential part of the house for both identity and the performance of the house. In cooperation with local craftsmen, the design prioritizes sustainability and adaptability to the challenging climate of Ottsjö. 'The exterior is dressed in untreated Norrland kernwood, which is arranged in different panel widths to create a subtle variation in the facade. We also use Norwegian marble, which comes directly opposite the mountain, a local and beautiful stone that fits the jaw just right. ' Jesper Mellgren, the architect of the project, says design boom.
The house compensates for its own architectural identity with a strong connection to its surroundings
The house is built beyond the aesthetics to include the realities of mountain life. The steep roof field is designed for a massive snowfall, and the house is shaped to withstand the hard weather conditions of the region, while the precious daylight captures and the panoramic view is framed.
'This project represents our development as a creator and brings our interior experience to a broader architectural vision. It is research into how space, function and materiality can work together in the context of the surrounding wild nature. This is a house that fulfills the needs of the people who live there today, and it will also be a contribution to the village of Ottsjö and the place itself for the coming generations. ' Mellgrge closes. The studio will soon present its second architecture project in an old village in Skåne, southern Sweden.
The design was influenced by the barn aesthetics, but adapted to the restrictions on the steep terrain
The local conditions shaped the layout of the house, reacted to Terrain's Contours and maximized daylight
