The US Interior Ministry (DOI) has the construction of the Empire Wind 1 offshore wind farm, which is currently under construction in federal waders before New York, via the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
According to Community and Mariner updates published by the Empire Wind Project, the preparatory work of the sea floor began this month before installing the foundation, the first rock layer was installed at the locations of wind turbines.
On April 16, US Interior Minister Doug Burgum said about X (formerly known as Twitter) that the Doi Boem had instructed to set all construction activities in the Empire Wind Project until a review was carried out.
The rental agreement for the Empire Wind Area held by Equinor was given approval of the construction and operating plan (COP) during the first term of office of US President Donald Trump in February 2024 during the bidges administration.
Work on the 810 MW Empire Wind 1, the first phase of the development of the Empire Wind Leasing Area, began shortly after Equinor received the federal government last year.
In November 2024, SIF produced the first of 54 monopils for the offshore wind farm in its Maasvlakte 2 location in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Equinor reached the financial conclusion in Empire Wind 1 in January 2025.
After the news about the Doi -Stop -Tempire Wind 1 construction, the US organization Oceanic Network asked the DOI to raise the order.
“The termination of the work on the complete permissible Empire Wind 1 offshore project should send chills in all industries that invest in contracts with the government of the United States. Prevention of an permissible and financed energy project that is going forward, sends a loud and clear message to all companies -beyond those in the offshore wind industry that their investment in the USA is not sure is”. said Liz BurdockPresident and CEO of Oceanic Network.
“We ask the Interior Ministry to raise this order immediately in order to restore a predictable and fair environment for the establishment of critical energy resources that help to secure our energy future and independence.”
Empire Wind 1 is 25-48 kilometers southeast of Long Island and is the first offshore wind farm to connect to the network in New York City. The project comprises 54 Vestas 15 MW of wind turbines and is to generate the first performance at the end of 2026 with full commissioning in 2027.
A key component of the 810 MW project is the transformation of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) in Sunset Park, in which Equinor Empire Winds Operations and Maintenance (O&M) is built up.
