Working to replace the faulty Haygrove School could begin in 2026

A school that is forced to close its main building due to its faulty construction could switch to a new location by 2028.

The Haygrove School in Bridgwater was partially closed in August 2023 for security reasons. Since then, lessons have taken place in temporary classrooms.

The Department of Education (DFE) has confirmed a feasibility study on the construction of a new school on the Queenswood Farm, which has been completed by the end of this year.

Ashley Fox, a member of Bridgwater, said that the construction will probably begin in autumn 2026, subject to building permit, with the aim of “welcoming students of the new school in September 2028”.

He added: “Despite the challenging circumstances, the Haygrove School continued to achieve strong results.

“This is an recognition for employees, leadership and wider school community.”

A spokesman for the DFE said that high -quality and sustainable buildings were an essential part of the increase in school standards.

“In this financial year, we increased the investments to 2.1 billion GBP in order to improve the condition of the school buildings in addition to reconstruction of school structure,” they added.
