The ZS2 Technologies from Calgary presented its second generation (Gen 2) magnesium cement materials and marked a large leap forward in the sustainable construction for North America.

The new product line is supported and promised with $ 9.9 million in scholarships and a growing portfolio of third-party providers to replace conventional plaster, oriented strandboard (OSB) and imported magnesium oxide (MGO) with a permanent, fire-resistant and low-carbon alternative with low carbon alternative.

The GEN 2-platform builds on the patented waste-to-cement technology of the company, which have been developed in the past five years. In contrast to conventional materials that are susceptible to mold, moisture damage and limited fire resistance, the magnesium cement products from ZS2 offer the verified performance against these ongoing construction challenges.

“Bowers choose ZS2 because they are waiting for MGO materials to arrive from overseas,” said Scott Jenkins, CEO from ZS2 Technologies. “We have redefined how magnesium cement is produced, where it comes from and how it works.”

The Gen 2 products of ZS2 are produced with Canadian industrial by-products, which eliminates the quality inconsistencies and the supply chain risks of traditional MGO and at the same time the carbon emissions are typical of a third of the typical for conventional cement. Cement currently accounts for an estimated 7% of global CO₂ emissions.

A highlight of the new platform is ZS2Techtile ™, an increased floor system that is aimed at data centers and modular commercial builds. The product was recently classified as not combined under ASTM E136-19A, which reinforces the suitability of the platform for high-performance applications.

The materials of the first generation of ZS2 have already been used in top-class projects, including an Edmonton Crispy Kreme, an important habitat for the development of humanity in California, and the Shawnessy station from Trico Homes in Calgary. With Gen 2 that now enters the commercial production, ZS2 is ready to deliver materials throughout North America, meet strict fire regulations and sustainability mandates.

The announcement is made when ZS2 Technologies as a finalist for venture of the year: Scaleup is awarded the Alberta Cleantech Awards 2025 – recognition of the fast increase and the growing effects of the company.

“Gen 2 is not a concept,” added Jenkins. “It is certified to fulfill the requirements of today's construction industry.”

Since climate effectiveness, emission reduction and domestic supply chains for the construction sector are top priorities, ZS2 positions its next generation platform as a reliable and scalable solution for the buildings of tomorrow.
